What is Medical Weight Loss?
At Transform Alliance for Health, our medical weight loss and weight management program does not involve surgery. Weight regulation involves more than just counting calories and working out, and at Transform, we focus on the science of weight loss applied in the setting of behavior and lifestyle change. Our aim for all our patients is long-term maintenance of a healthy weight and not just short-term weight loss solutions. We see patients with various chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and metabolic syndrome. In addition, we also help patients who are regaining weight after weight loss surgery.
Am I a candidate for Medical Weight Loss?
If you are overweight or suffering from obesity, you can benefit from medical weight loss. The Body Mass Index or BMI is the ratio of your weight to the square of your height. A BMI of 25-29.9 is classified as overweight. A BMI of 30 is classified as obese while a BMI of 40 or more is morbidly obese. You can find a BMI calculator online to help you estimate your BMI. In addition to calculating your BMI at your consultation, we also determine your body composition before you start treatment.
People suffering from chronic obesity-related conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes/prediabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, stroke, atrial fibrillation, metabolic syndrome are also good candidates for medical weight loss.
Medical Weight Loss: What to Expect
Many patients want to know what to expect when they begin a weight loss program. In many cases they’re tired of quick- fix programs or exercise DVDs that haven’t quite lived up to the hype. It is perfectly reasonable to be skeptical about yet another program after you’ve tried so many others.
Our goal at Transform Alliance for Health is less about your weight and waist size and more about your overall health. As you know, health isn’t measured in pounds and inches, How you feel physically, emotionally and mentally is our number one goal.
However, we understand that most people want an idea of what to expect in terms of health outcomes and results. The amount of weight loss will vary depending on many factors such as start weight, gender, age and so on. When you come in for your initial medical consultation we will help you determine the optimal weight goal for your health.
